Get Your Head Erased

“I want you to take that R2 unit to Anchorhead and have its memory erased.” – Uncle Owen, Star Wars

If only.

Can you imagine what life would be like if you arose each day with an empty, open mind?

Yes, you can. Because you travel.

Awakening in new places is so enchanting because we have no memory of what it’s like. It’s fresh and new. Clean slate. We’re present.

PRESENT.

With a little mental twist, we can “travel” right at home and work.

Only this time, you’re going to TIME travel.

Imagine waking up in your childhood room with all your possessions right where you left them. The rabbits foot. The comic books. The teddy bear.

You’d be delighted and amazed to reacquaint yourself with all these relics from your past. Now imagine your childhood dog bounding into the room. Followed by your long-dead mother. It’s a miracle!

It would be a glorious and euphoric homecoming. You’d be in the past, but you’d be PRESENT.

Now do the same with the future. Imagine yourself 30 years in the future. Sitting in the nursing home, recalling your life. Little time left, loved ones gone, vitality and health in the rearview mirror.

Now imagine having the chance to return to today.

Everything is suddenly fresh and new. The relics on your desk are just as you left them. The family dog still has that loppy grin. Your wife is young and alive! It’s a miracle!

You’re in the present but you’re really PRESENT. And you appreciate everything you have right now.

When you’re present, everything is fresh and new. When your brain drifts on autopilot, habitual perceptions, attitudes and thoughts are your reality. It’s heavy. Confining. Fearful. Exhausting.

But add a little time travel and gratitude to the mix and everything is fresh and new.

“Don't call me a mindless philosopher, you overweight glob of grease.” – C-3PO
