I love questions that rock the boat.
Questions that throw assumptions overboard.
Questions that float a totally new paradigm.
When I hear a kid tell me he’s going to college, I like to ask what he expects to gain from college.
How will your life improve from attending?
If he can’t easily answer, we both realize he hasn’t thought it through.
If he CAN easily answer, I like to ask, How could you gain the same benefits without attending college at all?
Instead of investing four years and $100,000, how might you gain the same benefits in half the time and half the investment?
Or better yet, how could you do it in just a few months, without ANY investment?
This gets his brain working in a totally new direction.
I rocked the boat.
Now he might consider an online course to learn a specific, monetizable skill.
Or consider an entry level job in an interesting industry that pays him while he learns the trade.
Or consider using his personal power to convince a successful person to mentor or allow him to apprentice in exchange for his labor.
Everyone has the ability to rock their own boat.
Just ask questions that challenge your prevailing paradigm.
