Write Your Own Obit

By Mike Johnson

Bob Weaver was born. Bob Weaver died. In between, he bobbed & weaved.

75 years condensed to 13 words.

Life is in the details.

Most obituaries are written by a grieving relative, under time pressure, with no information or research.

Oh, and they're usually a terrible writer.

If there was ever a project you should do yourself, this is it.

Yet, most people don't. You suddenly croak and leave your life story to Aunt Edna, who secretly despised you since catching you feeding her prized tapioca to the basset hound.

It's your life. Write it yourself, just the way it is.

Now write it the way you want it to be.

Now live THAT.

When it comes to obituaries, non-fiction is more respected.
