Silver & Souls

By Mike Johnson

I have a well-worn 1888 Morgan silver dollar on my desk. It has a face value of $1 but it cost me $32. I was happy to pay it. This tells you everything you need to know about the plummeting value of the US dollar.

Everyone should hold an old silver dollar in their hand. There is a comforting heft to it. It’s real. It’s 90% pure silver, .77 of an ounce. Silver has been used as money for thousands of years.

With silver selling for $29 (plus purchase premium of $12 per ounce), I’m in the black on this investment made a few years ago. I bought it for the beauty of the thing, knowing its intrinsic value was there too. There was a basket of these for sale at an antique shop. I wish I’d bought the entire lot.

Amazingly, Morgan silver dollars are still available at any coin shop. They’ll cost more than $32 but they’re available.

Increasingly, I ask myself a simple question.

“If I knew all my paper & digital dollars would be worth zero tomorrow, what would I buy today?”

Real, physical goods always trump worth-less paper & digits.

You’ll notice other things of value in this photo too.

My info-product. A US leader. The Galactic Leader.

Guess which is most valuable?

Increasingly, I ask myself a second simple question.

“If I died tomorrow, what would I make right today?”

Business & investment considerations have their place in life. But never let them become your entire life.

I once read about a guy who betrayed his friend & his soul for 30 pieces of silver. It didn’t turn out so well.
