Kids are sponges.
It’s fun to notice what they embrace.
If you’re a grandparent, you’re free of the daily discipline and guidance of childrearing.
So during visits, you can playfully direct grandkids’ attention toward creativity.
So I invented “the book title game.”
It involves word play and language skills, dipped in humor.
The goal is to create a book title and author name that work together to make you laugh.
“My Life as a Lumberjack” by Tim Burr.
“How to Get Rich Fast” by Robyn Banks.
“The Worst Boss Ever” by Betty Quits.
“Life Off the Grid” by Jen Erator.
When you see their goofy grin and eyes look inward, you know they’re noodling out their own contribution.
And kids being kids, they fixate on dreaming up new ones for hours.
And spring them on you at random times throughout their visit.
These are the types of shared memories that last forever.
The game is so much fun that I should write a book.
“How I Bonded with Grandchildren” by Leighton Themood.
