Richard Goodall has pulled off the American rags-to-riches “Journey.”
Richard has been employed as a school janitor for the past 23 years.
But alone in his bedroom, he has always been a rock star.
Once he started performing in public, the rest of the world believed it too.
He burst on the national stage earlier this year with an audition on “America’s Got Talent.”
His first impression was weak.
He is short.
Overweight.
Old.
Terrified at being in front of the judges and crowd.
He’s emotional.
Vulnerable.
Mousey.
But that makes him likeable.
The crowd embraces him.
They’re invested.
They desperately hope he does well.
Then the opening chords play from Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin.”
Jaws drop.
This song does not match up with the man before them.
What the heck?
You have to see if for yourself:
His amazing performance earned him a Golden Buzzer, which sent him directly to the finals.
He then performed three other songs to advance into the top ten finalists.
Home viewers cast their votes last week and the winner -- Richard Goodall -- was announced last night.
He earned the $1 million grand prize and will be showered with opportunities from all directions.
During last night’s show, Richard even got to sing “Don’t Stop Believin” with the actual band Journey.
Talk about a dream come true!
Richard Goodall is now recognized as an actual rock star.
Television is at its best when it inspires, spotlights and rewards talented achievers who really appreciate the opportunity.
That the winner was an undiscovered, but much-loved janitor, makes it that much more inspirational.
Don’t Stop Believin!
