“I’ll get back to you next week.”
“I didn’t have sex with that woman.”
“Safe & Effective.”
All were lies.
Small lies.
Self-serving lies.
Genocidal lies.
All untrue, all immoral, all caused damage.
Telling a fib is the easiest way to steal the truth.
It costs the liar nothing, but can cost the believer everything.
When you catch someone in a lie, you’ve learned something valuable.
They lack integrity.
You can’t trust them.
They don’t deserve your time and attention.
Like a cobra, they could bite you at any moment.
If the liar holds a position of power, this is really, really dangerous.
Without personal integrity chaining the temptations of power, lying leaders are capable of ANYTHING.
With these people, even a small lie is evidence they must be immediately removed from position.
If you think that is extreme, it is only because you tell lies yourself.
This reveals everything you need to know about human nature.
Most people are casual liars, spouting “little white lies” many times per day.
“We should do lunch.”
“I love your outfit.”
“I got caught in traffic.”
Those with integrity do not lie in any manner, no matter how small.
They are extreme about it.
They hold themselves to a standard of perfect honesty.
No unfulfilled promises.
No empty compliments.
No false excuses.
Brutal, consistent, self-honesty.
These are the people you can build an empire around.
They’re few and far between.
If you want to sleep soundly and carry a light soul, I suggest becoming one of them.
Everyone else is just a time bomb who will eventually cause you trouble.
