Golden Thoughts

“More gold has been mined from the thoughts of men than has ever been taken from the earth.”
- Napoleon Hill

If the “thoughts of men” are more valuable than gold, you’d think libraries – the repository of thought - would be shoulder-to-shoulder with prospectors.
Nope.

Jobs are filled.
Lottery lines snake all the way to the beer cooler.
Welfare offices are packed.

Everyone looks for riches in different places.
Places outside thought.

I was skimming through YouTube yesterday.
I’d tapped into a vein of business and financial videos.
I accidently learned a brilliant way to pay down credit card debt.

I don’t carry any balance myself, but I mentor people, so am always on the lookout for simple, yet powerful tips.

This tip was brilliantly simple.
Say you’re carrying a balance of $10,000 and your minimum monthly payment is $400.
Instead of paying that minimum amount last, send VISA $2,000 FIRST, then pay the rest of your $1,600 in monthly bills with VISA.
You’ve just paid down your card $400 in principle, instead of paying $400 in interest.
Do this every month and your “new” $1,600 in purchases do not accrue interest because you're paying them off each month.
Only your old balance accrues new interest.
Now you pay off your $10,000 balance in about 28 months instead of never.
Without any additional effort, second job or going without.
Sweet.

I wish I’d discovered that idea about 30 years ago when I was really struggling.

Now I look at YouTube differently.
I’m no longer searching for entertainment.
I’m mining for gold.

I already looked at libraries and bookstores with that perspective.
And when I enter a business, I don’t look at it as a customer, but as a potential owner.

Ideas are everywhere, if you have the eyes to see.

With the right perspective, everything is a treasure hunt.
