Theatre of the Mind

We’d have never discovered the Art House Cinema & Pub if they weren’t the only place in town playing the new Bill Murray movie, “The Friend.”
Celebrating Margie’s birthday, on a two-nighter to Billings, it was the only current movie without excessive CGI and violence.

What a great place!
Dinner, drinks and a movie in the same building.
Plus, you can bring your food into the theatre and eat at a pub table just like home.

The movie was pleasant, the atmosphere rich and warm, and the service was excellent.
What a great business model!

Perhaps we don’t get out much.
But this operation made traditional theatres seem cold and sterile.

I’m sure the positive experience colored our perception of the event.
Earlier in the day we’d abandoned a Perkins that was short-staffed and running on survival mode.
After years in the industry, we quickly felt the crisis vibe and departed, avoiding what was sure to be a bad experience.

That exit pushed us toward Stella’s instead, which delivered a fantastic breakfast.

Upon arrival, it looked busy, so I dropped Margie off to hold a place in line.
While parking, a supermodel carrying an uncased hunting rifle, walked to the back door of the car next to me.
Camo design with a big spotting scope.
(The gun, not the woman.)
People usually transport their rifles in a case.
I checked to see if it was still smoking.
(The gun, not the woman.)
Her unleashed labradoodle walked right up and licked my fingers.
Too bad the pair wasn’t reversed.
“It looks like you’re ready for anything,” I said cheerfully.
She rewarded me with a big smile.
NOT a murderer.
Just classic Montana.

How much of life is projected from the theatre of our mind?
Even the stuff we never saw coming.
ESPECIALLY the stuff we never saw coming.

Snuggled into our consciousness, safely wrapped in awareness, we watch the moving pictures outside our bodies, that unfold our life.

Grab the popcorn.
Lots more is coming.
